All the news in a red dress

September 19th, 2012 · 11 Comments · album release

I’ve recorded the first song for my new SPACE! album. I will be releasing the single song in a few weeks. It is, by far, the best song I have ever recorded. I cannot wait to share it with you.

I am in New York City. Jim Batt, Molly Crabapple and I will be launching the “I Have Your Heart” animation in the fall. Stop motion takes such a long time but the movie looks wonderful and is well worth the wait.

And to keep you entertained while you wait for these upcoming releases there is this new song, written for The Bloggess and her Red Dress Project. Please share it with those who need the inspiration.

Everything you can’t do
Everything you won’t do
All the things you don’t deserve
All lined up like just desserts

You build them up brick by brick
Until the walls are big and thick
You built yourself a house of don’t,
Can’t, shouldn’t, or just won’t

You tell yourself it’s better here
Take comfort in walls of fear
Don’t let yourself out to play
You don’t deserve it anyway

You build them up brick by brick
Until the walls are big and thick
You built yourself a house of don’t,
Can’t, shouldn’t, or just won’t

Stop waiting for permission from some outside force or person

And put your red dress on
Go howl at the moon
Your time will be here soon
How about now?

Put your red dress on.

Love,

Kim

    Beautiful work, Kim!
Your selflessness has not only helped Jenny Lawson move out of the darkness, you’ve given millions of people the chance to enjoy your music and beautiful soul.

I LOVE THIS SONG! and I ESPECIALLY love that you wrote it for Jenny and for all of her supporters and followers and depression-sufferers and PEOPLE in general. I don’t have a red dress (because red makes me angry) but I am blessed to have numerous other outlets for my depressions. Thank you, Kim.

    Kim,
That was just lovely. Beautiful, simple message in a beautiful, simple voice. I’ve followed (stalked) Jenny for years now. This song puts it all into a package that even non depression sufferers might understand. That’s HUGE.

You and Amanda were already two of my favorite people, but what you both did for Jenny is amazing. All I can say is thank you.

Also, the new album is fantastic! :)

Awesome. How appropriate and timely for Jenny but also meaningful to a lot of other people in different stages of life looking to take a step in a new direction but afraid of the unknown.

A lovely song, made me cry (in a good way!). Not just for depression sufferers but for everyone who stops themselves from being happy…
